Rocksteady Studios is looking to add to its family of staff!  Reporting to the Lead VFX Artist, the Senior VFX Artist will be responsible for the design and creation of world class visual effects!


Key Responsibilities

  • Create industry leading VFX on a daily basis to significantly raise the project’s visual bar.
  • Work closely and be comfortable communicating across all teams and departments.
  • Self-regulate your workload while completing ad-hoc requests & investigating any issues that arise.
  • Be proactive and pre-empt dependency issues across teams before they happen.
  • Fully understand the project tool chain / game engine and confidently report issues & improvements.
  • Continue to develop the skills of yourself and those around you to maintain a world class quality.
  • Create optimal effects to run efficiently in-game whilst maintaining high visual quality.

Technical Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Houdini (An excellent knowledge of other 3D packages is also acceptable if able to transfer skillset).
  • Excellent knowledge of any real time 3D engine (especially UE4).
  • Excellent knowledge of Fluid simulations and Rigid Body simulations.
  • Good knowledge of Substance Designer with an onus to continually improve skills to a very high level.

Skill Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Shaders utilising mathematical functions and procedural techniques to produce optimised high quality and highly functional shaders.
  • Excellent ability to create VFX textures.
  • Good knowledge in modelling and UV mapping of basic props.
  • Excellent understanding of what makes a great visual effect:
    • Timing
    • Anticipation
    • Colour
    • Impact
  • Visual understanding and ability to re-create natural phenomena i.e. Waves, lightning, electricity.
  • Comfortable working in an environment of honest feedback & iterative design.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated / disciplined without lead supervision.
  • Have a great personality and be a pro-active person who has a constant desire to improve.
  • Have a solid interest in game methodology.
  • Understanding of traditional arts and fundamental art concepts. (Use of colour, contrast, composition, form).
